The Draft
Nobody's playing,
but we will still watch
There won't be any
touchdowns or first downs,
but we will sit back
with our snacks and drinks
as if the clock reads
one o'clock on Sunday.
The tests and questions are over.
The scouting has been done.
The future now walks across the stage
to shake the commissioner's hand,
wearing a new hat,
displaying a new jersey.
Now it's time to get to work.
Armchair quarterbacks
cheer and boo their team's
choice in player,
telling anyone who will listen
what they would've done.
It doesn't matter now;
We all know what tonight means.
Football is coming.
