Keep Them Happy

This is not about
getting a person ready
to take your place.
This is about
keeping a client happy who
really doesn’t want change.

If he had it his way,
none of this would be happening.
You wouldn’t have
aspirations for bigger and better,
moving on for greener pastures.
You would be one of those

who take their place in the company
and need not much more than
their office and position,
contentment coming from the
stability of it all.  In a
perfect world, you would

clone yourself, a replacement while
without doing so, the routine
and the new frontier covered
together.  Everyone happy;
let’s move on.  But reality says
that can’t happen so

you stay a little while longer,
train the one who will become you
just to keep him happy, to
make sure things run maybe
the same as if you were still
here but you won’t be around.

You’ll be long gone, ready
for your new challenge in a
new place, knowing you won’t be
sitting anymore in place, just
a simple working doing the job
of keeping a client happy
